Who's Behind FilmEthic?

Film Image

Hi there. My name is Jeff Lanctot and I've been an independent filmmaker for more than 20 years. I first picked up a video camera as a teen when I would direct short-films with my buddies for extra credit that we needed to not fail our German class. To this day I don't speak a lick of German, but I passed, and kept my teacher and classmates laughing, so I guess I did get something out of those classes after-all.

For the past decade I have been making a living as the owner of Paper Plane Group, Inc., a full-service film and video firm. We have the ability to take a film or video project through every phase of development from concept to final delivery. I have been involved in various capacities from Producer and Director all the way down the chain to PA on more than 40 commercials music videos, and industrial films for various clients around the Northwest. In addition, in 2008 I produced and directed my first full-length feature film, "Harry Christmas," which is currently set for straight-to-DVD distribution nationally over Christmas 2009, and am deep in pre-production on my next movie, which I will be filming this fall. When I'm not in production, I write about film for various outlets, including Videomaker magazine, over at www.suite101.com, and of course, here at www.filmethic.com.

In addition to myself, www.filmethic.com has a talented group of writers who contribute many of the articles that you've read on this site. All of them have years of filmmaking experience, and their expertise will hopefully make you a better filmmaker as well. I hope you find this growing collection of articles and tutorials helpful, and if there is any particular topic that you'd like us to write on, please don't hesitate to let us know!

If you're a filmmaker with something to say, a FilmEthic take on independent filmmaking and you'd like to become a part of the FilmEthic team, feel free to drop me a line...

Good Luck With Your Movie!

 ~Jeff

Hi Jeff and FilmEthic, I don't know how I missed this site before today? Great
info available and I love connecting with the DIY community. I even see a
reference to one of my blog posts on the site! Anyway, I am very involved in the
marketing and distribution side of indie films and wanted to tell you about a
Twitter group under #infdist which discusses the future of distribution for
indie film and Jon Reiss' book Think Outside the Box Office which is essential
reading for any indie filmmaker to understand the current landscape of marketing
and distributing film. Both are useful resources for your readers.

You are
certainly welcome to glean more info from my site anytime www.shericandler.com
and keep an eye on a great Filmmaker Summit happening at Slamdance this year.
Announcements about it will be made Jan 5 and the summit will be online January
23. Don't miss it.
